What To Do If a Subscription Proves Challenging To Cancel

Subscription cancellation issues can happen to any company, which may stem from miscommunication, a technical glitch, or an honest error. While most companies allow you to cancel your subscription in a few steps, some may go out of their way to make the process challenging

They may employ deceptive methods such as adding inconspicuous cancellation buttons, keeping you on hold for long, or asking for handwritten letters to submit your request. Such sneaky practices may cause you to miss the cancellation window and continue paying for their services.

To manage your subscription expenses more effectively, consider signing up for subscriptions with virtual cards from Privacy. These cards substitute your actual payment card details with temporary card numbers, which you can use for online payments to avoid potential misuse. Independent virtual card providers like Privacy also offer comprehensive card settings that help you control your spending and limit excessive charges from any company.

Privacy Virtual Cards—Limit How Much Merchants Can Bill You

Once you link your debit card or bank account to Privacy, you will be able to create multiple virtual cards for various subscriptions. That includes other streaming platforms such as PlayStation Plus, Philo, or Apple Music and everyday tools like Shopify, Dropbox, and Adobe. With Privacy, you can generate Single-Use or Merchant-Locked Cards, which are suitable for different use cases.

  • Single-Use Cards become invalid moments after completing your first transaction. This makes them ideal for one-time payments and transactions on websites you haven't purchased from before.
  • Merchant-Locked Cards "lock" to the first merchant you transact with but can be used repeatedly with the same vendor. They are ideal for recurring payments such as subscriptions.

Merchant-Locked Cards are especially helpful for managing subscription expenses. You can pause or close the cards in a few clicks to protect against unwelcome charges when you're trying to cancel a subscription. Privacy will block all future transactions on the said card.

You can also set spending limits on each Privacy Card, and Privacy will decline all charges that exceed those limits. This includes double charges for the same month, price increases you weren't aware of, and other hidden fees.

Streamline Your Online Transactions With Privacy

Besides protecting your funds from overcharges, Privacy also streamlines your online shopping experience via extensions for popular browsers such as:

The Privacy Browser Extension autofills your virtual card details at checkout, enabling you to enjoy fast and seamless checkouts without the need to reach for your wallet whenever you shop online.

Privacy also offers a dedicated app for Android and iOS devices that allows you to create new virtual cards and manage existing ones on the go.
